album review: am (2013) by arctic monkeys;

everywhere i looked, i always always see people tweeting about how amazing arctic monkeys' new album is. so basically, the curiosity killed the cat la-da la-da, i decided to check it out. am is the fifth studio by the english indie rock band arctic monkeys which was released last september 9 2013.

am album cover;

what drew you to the album in the first place?
it was the word of mouth kind of thing. mostly because the people i adore tweet about it so much that i decided to give it a listen.

did it sustain your interest? did it live up to the hype and your own first impressions and expectations?
definitely. it's catchy and i've been listening to indie rock bands these past few months and it was amazing.

does the whole album fit into a particular musical genre, or does it borrow from multiple forms? have these been merely copied or has there been development, updating or reworking? what was most original about the music?
it is merely indie and they have this particular sound that makes them recognizable. i've noticed in their songs in this album that there has been a repetition of guitar riffs (?) and notes but it's not something i haven't heard before.

were you affected emotionally by the music?
not really but I wish it did because this album screams sex.

were there particular songs, or even lines, which stick in your mind because of their lyrics?
"'cause there's this tune I found that makes me think of you somehow and I play it on repeat
until I fall asleep
" - Do I Wanna Know?;

"it's much less picturesque without her catching the light
the horizon tries but it's just not as kind on the eyes
" - Arabella;

is there a consistent lyrical style through the album, or a range?
it think their lyrical style ranges from oh-this-is-a-sex-song to oh-im-gonna-be-serious-now.

do any of the tracks express the point of view of different persona and characters? or do they seem more autobiographical?
the album, i presume, is autobiographical.

what does the album’s title reveal, if anything, about the album’s impact and themes?
their album is basically the abbreviation of their band. am for arctic monkeys, i guess.

what was your favorite song off of the album?
if i have to pick i'd choose Do I Wanna Know?, No. 1 Party Anthem, Knee Socks, I Want It All and Mad Sounds.

why?
i chose DIWK? hugely because the guitar skills are awesomesauce; N1PA because i have a slow song fetish right now; KS because i like the notes, the lyrics and everything; IWIA because the melody sounds coolbeans; MS because as i told you, slow song fetish.

on a scale of 1 - 10 album vinyls, how good is the album?
i would rate it 9 album vinyls out of 10.

would you recommend this album to your readers?
yes. it sounds amazing, really. and based on their live youtube videos, they sound greater live so i recommend you to give this a listen.

p.s;  i would write my reviews on a question and answer type of thing because it's easier. weeee ok bye
